Straughn and Legrier record double-doubles in loss to UWG

first_img West Alabama* 2/21/2015 – 4 p.m. CT PENSACOLA, Fla.  – The University of West Florida men’s basketball team fell to the University of West Georgia 79-69 at the UWF Field House Thursday night. The Argonauts (7-19, 3-17 GSC) were led by Erin Straughn (Pensacola, Fla./East Carolina University) and Deangelo Legrier (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater HS) who each recorded double-doubles in the loss. “You’re never pleased when you lose,” said head coach Bob Stinnett. “But I was pleased with our team because of how hard they worked.” West Florida started strong in the first half by jumping to an early 6-0 lead before the Wolves scored their first basket of the game. The Argos would go on to hold their lead until 13 minutes remained in the first half until UWG went on a 8-0 run to take the lead. Both teams would go on to trade baskets throughout the remaining half and at halftime, West Georgia held onto a 38-36 lead over the Argos. Straughn led the Argos in the half after he scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds on 4-for-9 shooting. UWF and UWG each traded baskets for the most of the second half, and with 12 minutes remaining the Argos were within one of the wolves. However, a 15-9 run by the Wolves gave West Georgia an eight point lead with six minutes left. West Florida just couldn’t overcome the deficit and eventually fell 79-69. Straughn led West Florida in points and rebounding for the game after scoring 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Legrier followed with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
