first_imgRelatedEarly Start on Parish Project in Hanover RelatedEarly Start on Parish Project in Hanover RelatedEarly Start on Parish Project in Hanover FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmail Work on the Hanover Labour Day parish project is scheduled to start prior to Labour Day (May 25), based on the scope of work to be carried out on that project.The parish project entails the cleaning of the beaches and surrounding areas along the Lucea Waterfront, stretching between the Lucea Transportation Centre and Church Street in that town, inclusive of the local fishermen’s beach.Deputy Superintendent of the Hanover Parish Council, Bryce Grant, in a report to the Hanover Labour Day Planning Committee on May 11, pointed out that the work to be carried out is extensive, and as such, some work will have to begin before Labour Day.According to the Deputy Superintendent, the work will involve the cleaning of drains, paving of some drains, building and installation of planter boxes and garbage skips, the cleaning and removal of debris from the designated beach areas, the demolition of some unoccupied fishing huts and burnt out structures along the beach area, and the building of a footbridge at one section of the beach.He said that the estimated cost of the work is approximately $700,000.Custos of Lucea, and Chairman of the Hanover Labour Day Planning Committee, Dr. the Hon. Norman Stair, used the meeting to appeal for volunteers to come out on Labour Day and give of their time and energy. He also called on communities that are carrying out their own projects to register them with the Secretariat, so that a proper account can be kept of all the projects in the parish.“Project registration forms are available at the Parish Council offices, the Social Development Commission (SDC), the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) and on-line on the Jamaica Information Service website,” he pointed out.The Labour Day church service for the parish will be held on Sunday, May 24, at the Lucea United Church, beginning at 9:00 a.m.Labour Day 2009 will be observed under the theme: ‘Ketch the Vibes: Volunteerism, Intervention, Beautification, Empowerment for Success’.center_img Early Start on Parish Project in Hanover Local GovernmentMay 11, 2009 Advertisementslast_img
