Work daysare 8 to 10 hours, 4 to 5 days per week and possiblyweekendsMust be US Citizen at time of hireDuties include canine handling, training,acclimation/socialization, welfare, and care; executing researchand development protocols, data collection, data entry, assistingin equipment and procedure area preparation and upkeep;demonstration, instruction, technology transfer, and supervision ofother personnelEssential FunctionsEssential functions include, but are not limited to: Caninehandling, training, acclimation/socialization, welfare, and care ofpuppies, young adult, and adult dogs; applies basic principles ofbehavioral learning/conditioning in preparing dogs for varied, butprimarily detection related, working and/or research tasks;observes, records, and assists in evaluating canine behavior andperformance for production, research, and development activities;transports dogs locally for training/acclimation and to remotehousing locations that requires interstate and, occasionally,overnight travel; assists in planning and developing training andacclimation/socialization programs.Follows research and development protocols. Conducts demonstrationsand may provide for technology transfer to other detection caninepractitioners. Assists in the overall management of facilities andequipment utilized by the program. Operational detection canine experience. Leadership andinstruction of groups/teams especially in military or othergovernment service. Research.
