This position assists students inidentifying and understanding issues and procedures related totheir educational objectives.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Provides academic advisement, career information and guidanceactivities, educational/degree planning, course selection, andrelated support services for the programs offered by the college;tracks student progress and reports on activities asnecessary• Assists students to take and score self-administered vocationalinterest and aptitude tests; assists students in assessing academicskills• Schedules appointments with school guidance and counseling stafffor students requiring professional assistance• Orders, catalogues, and maintains files on materials relating tojob opportunities, careers, technical schools, colleges,scholarships, armed forces, and other programs; prepares ordistributes brochures, handbooks, and fliers as necessary• Assists students and teachers to locate career informationrelated to students’ interests and aptitudes, or demonstrates useof files, shelf collections, and other information retrievalsystems• Makes presentations to parent and other groups to publicizeeducational opportunities and activities of the college• Plans publicity campaigns and contacts target groups to explaincollege educational programs and services; assists with outreach tohigh schools and community• Provides new student group advisement• Assists students with transfer of courses, programs, anduniversities• Collects and organizes occupational data as necessary; compilesand studies occupational, educational, and economic information toassist counselees in determining and carrying out vocational andeducational objectives• Conducts professional development activities and training for newadvisors and counselors• Refers students to the correct program or health professional forissues requiring further attention• Manages and implements improved methods to offer special programsdesigned for minorities and under-served populations; recruits theunderrepresented population of students at low-performing schoolsin Tarrant County• Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually andfollows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of theworksite• Completes all required training and professional developmentsessions sponsored through Tarrant County College ( TCC )• Supports the values of the College: diversity, teachingexcellence, student success, innovation and creativity and serviceto the College• Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of theCollegeThe duties listed are intended only as illustrations of the varioustypes of work that may be performed. The omission of specificstatements of duties does not exclude them from the position if thework is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.The job description does not constitute an employment agreementbetween the employer and employee and is subject to change by theemployer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the jobchange.Required Education, Experience, Certifications,Licensures• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college oruniversity• Two (2) years of experience in advising, counseling, financialaid, admissions, retention, or student servicesDesired Education, Experience, Certifications,Licensures• Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education,Social Work or related field from a regionally accredited collegeor university• Experience as an academic advisor in a college oruniversity• Experience in advising students of diverse cultures and ethnicbackgrounds• Extensive knowledge of, and experience working with, low-income,first-generation and/or under-served student populations• Experience working with TRiO programs or other educationalprograms that serve and support first-generation, low-income,and/or under-served student populations• Bilingual – SpanishKnowledge, Skills and Ability• Experience working with computerized systems• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentationsoftware• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills• Excellent oral and written communication skillsAccommodationsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals withdisabilities to perform the essential duties andresponsibilities.Special Instructions SummaryThis is a grant-funded position.
