Kolkata: Family members of a woman have accused Debra Superspecialty Hospital in East Midnapore of glaring medical negligence and lodged a complaint with the hospital superintendent urging him to take steps against those who will be found guilty during the probe.It was alleged that a portion of a broken needle remained inside the body of the patient who was taken to the hospital on September 29 after she went into pain. The victim’s husband, Sisir Bhowmik, in his complaint with the hospital superintendent said that the patient was taken to the hospital labour room around 10 am on the day of admission. The patient was shifted to general bed along with her baby around 4 pm on the same day. The family members alleged that the bed sheet was untidy and full of blood stains. The nursing staff members refused to change the bed-sheet despite repeated pleas. On September 30, a nursing staff member told the family members that a portion of a needle had got stuck inside her body and urged the family members to conduct an X-ray on the patient. After the X-ray was conducted on the patient, it confirmed that a portion of the needle remained inside her body. When the victim’s husband requested the nursing staff members to meet the doctor, he was told that the doctor was not available. As the family members took up the issue with the doctor, the latter allegedly misbehaved with the victim’s family members. The victim’s husband later shifted the patient to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. The family members lodged a complaint of medical negligence with the hospital superintendent and the block medical office stating the details how the patient was poorly treated in the Debra Superspecialty Hospital. The victim’s husband urged the hospital super that the doctors who committed the mistake should come forward and acknowledge his mistake. The hospital authorities have also been requested to take steps against those who were responsible for the incident.
