Kolkata: Thousands of devotees visited Belur Math early Friday morning to see the Durga Puja.The state Transport department is running more buses and ferry services to carry the devotees. The Ramakrishna Math and Mission authorities have deputed volunteers so that the visitors can see the puja at peace. The highest footfall will be on Asthami on October 6 during the Kumari Puja at 9 am. The devotees can have prasad at Ma Sarada Sadabrata Bhavan at 12noon. Many people come from different parts of India and abroad to see the Puja at Belur Math. The Puja is being held in other centres of RKM outside Bengal and India. The Doordarshan Kendra Kolkata will telecast the Puja between 6.10am and 8.30 am and 9 am and 9.30am on October 5. On October 6, the telecast will start at 5.40 am till 8.30 am. Kumar Puja will be telecast from 9 am to 10 am. On October 7, Mahanavami will be telecast from 5.40am to 8.30am. The immersion will take place on October 8. The Puja is being held strictly following the scriptures. Many NGOs are taking elderly persons to attend the Puja at Belur Math. The Durga Puja at Belur Math was started by Swami Vivekananda in 1901. Ma Sarada was present during the puja. Common people from the neighbouring villages come the math during the Puja days.
